Our Guarantee
The Tax Shelter guarantees the accurate preparation of all tax returns. If we make an error that results in a penalty or interest charged to you by CRA because of that error, we will pay that penalty or interest. We will not, however, pay any additional taxes, interest or penalty that you would have been required to pay had the error not been made.
Our Guarantee covers interest and/or penalty on additional taxes that were charged because of our error only. We will not pay any interest based on the original amount of taxes as calculated by the Tax Shelter.
The Tax Shelter prepare T1 tax returns based on information provided by the client and from information obtained from the Canada Revenue Agency through its Auto Fill Service and Represent a Client. The Tax Shelter Guarantee is null and void if the client or CRA has provided incorrect information that is used in the preparation of the client’s T1 tax return.
We will represent you in any conflict with CRA relating to the preparation of any tax return prepared by the Tax Shelter. This service is free of charge.
For year-round service call toll free at 1-866-720-7610
Responsibilities of both parties
It is our responsibility to prepare the client’s tax return correctly according to the law and with the information that the client has provided.
It is the client’s responsibility to provide us with all the information required to prepare complete and accurate tax returns.
Although we may ask for clarification, we will not audit or otherwise verify the accuracy or completeness of information provided. Therefore, we can assume no responsibility for errors in filings that result from missing or incorrect information that has been provided to us, including the unintentional omission of any slips.
The client should retain all the documents, cancelled cheques and other data that form the basis of the information entered on the return as these may be necessary to prove the accuracy and completeness of the return to CRA. The client has the final responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of his/her income tax return and the Notice of Assessment and, therefore, should review it carefully and advise us immediately of any discrepancies, errors or omissions.
It is the responsibility of the client to inform the Tax Shelter if his/her Notice of Assessment is not received within a reasonable time (usually 6 to 8 weeks).
It is also the responsibility of the client to pay all taxes due by April 30 of the tax year, not dependant on receiving notice
The Tax Shelter operates several offices throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. As The Tax Shelter expands across the province, we are constantly looking for competent and knowledgeable individuals to work as tax preparers in our offices. To be considered for employment, you must have a basic knowledge of computers and tax preparation and be prepared to complete our free on-line tax training program.
